In a shocking incident, police have arrested a youth for the alleged rape and murder of his own mother in Assam‘s Dibrugarh district.
The incident took place on Banipur bylane no 11 in Dibrugarh.
According to reports, the victim, Purnima Gogoi, was found strangled to death in her home.
Upon receiving the information, a police team from the Gabharupathar police outpost rushed to the scene and recovered the body.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a thorough investigation into the matter is underway.
The accused Shankarjyoti was subsequently taken into custody.
“Prima facie, it’s a case of rape and murder. However, it will be confirmed only after we receive the post-mortem report. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and we are investigating the case,” said a police official.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among locals, who are calling for justice to be served.
