2 child policy finds support from indigenous Muslims in Assam

Guwahati: Aimed at checking population growth within the Muslim Community, Assam government’s two-child policy proposal has found support among the indigenous Muslim population in the state.
This was informed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after attending a meeting with around 150 ‘intellectuals’ from the indigenous Assamese Muslim community in Guwahati on Sunday evening.
 
CM Sarma further informed that he will next meet ‘migrant’ Bengali-speaking Muslims to discuss the matter.
 
Meanwhile, as many as eight sub committees have been formed to look into various socio-economic aspects of the Muslim community in Assam.
 
These eight sub committees will submit their reports within three months.Sub-groups with representatives of indigenous Muslim will be formed to deliberate on issues for the community like health, education, skill development, cultural identity, financial inclusion, women empowerment etc
 
After assuming office, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had advised the minority community to adopt decent population control measures to reduce poverty and pressure on land.(UNI)
