Lucknow :Two suspected terrorists, allegedly associated with the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, were arrested from Deoband by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police.
UP DGP OP Singh on Friday said that the accused have been identified as Shahnawaz Teli and Aqib Ahmed Malik. While Shahnawaz is the resident of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam, Aqib is a resident of Pulwama.

Mr Singh said that the ATS conducted a raid in Deoband on Thursday night and arrested the duo with two pistols of 32 bore and 30 cartridges.

According to the DGP, a Deoband student had reportedly given information regarding the suspected activities of the accused to the ATS.

Mr Singh said that Shahnawaz is an active member of the Jaish and was working towards admitting new members into the terrorist organisation. On the other hand, Aqib was trying to recruit people under the guise of studies.

The DGP said that information regarding the time frame from which both were residing in Deoband is also being collected.

The DGP said that the police will ask for a remand from a court to interrogate the accused.

Mr OP Singh further added that information regarding other 'Kashmiri students' living in Deoband without taking an admission anywhere has also been received and the police is investigating the matter.(UNI)
