Australian MP Craig Kelly praises UP Model of Covid management

Lucknow: Australia’s federal independent Member of Parliament Craig Kelly has praised Uttar Pradesh for successfully 'smashing' the ‘scary’ Delta variant of COVID-19 with the use of Ivermectin.

The Australian MP said that UP with a population of 23 crore curbed the second wave of COVID-19 by using the ivermectin tablet. The daily case count in UP has come down to just 182 while the UK, with a population of merely 6.7 crore, has around 20,479 cases on date the tweet was sent.

To treat the patients infected with the novel coronavirus, the Health Department of UP government prescribed the use of Ivermectin, a medicine to treat parasitic ailments, along with Doxycycline was introduced as a protocol across the state for both prophylactic as well as treatment purposes, state officials here on Thursday said.

It is noteworthy that Uttar Pradesh was the first state in the country to introduce large-scale prophylactic and therapeutic use of Ivermectin.

The key elements of the ‘UP Covid Model’ such as contact tracing, early detection, isolation and free and timely provision of medicine kits and treatment to the rural populace has also won laurels from several expert bodies such as World Health Organization (WHO) and NITI Aayog, asking other states to replicate the mechanism.
