New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his disappointment on the conduct of Madhya Pradesh legislator Akash Vijayvargiya, son of senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, and urged the party’s lawmakers not to take law in their hands.

Sources said Prime Minister made the observation while presiding over BJP Parliamentary Party meeting here on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Mr Modi also suggested that the BJP leadership should take action against even those who are supporting any public leader taking law into their hands.

Sources said a visibly angry Prime Minister made it clear - “Mr Modi said he did not care whose son was behind the incident, it was completely unwarranted and not acceptable”.

‘Beta Kisi ka bhi ho ....(He may be son of any leader....but we disapporve such actions),” Mr Modi reportedly told the party MPs.

The 34-year-old Akash Vijayvargiya, a first-time MLA who represents Indore-3 assembly segment, was caught on TV cameras assaulting municipal officer Dhirendra Singh Bais with a cricket bat. The episode has gone viral much to the embarrassment of the saffron party which tries to play up its slogan of party with a difference.

Prime Minister Modi is likely to launch BJP’s mega membership drive from Varanasi from July 6.

This was formally decided at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting.

At the party meet - first in the ongoing Budget session of Parliament - Prime Minister also directed party workers and leaders to plant five trees in every booth during the membership drive to be taken up by the party leaders at the national level.

This was the first meeting of BJP Parliamentary Party since the elevation of J P Nadda as the party’s working president.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and BJP national president Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders attended the meeting. Mr Nadda was felicitated on the occasion by senior party leaders.

This was also the first meeting of BJP Parliamentary Party since four TDP Rajya Sabha MPS joined the saffron party.

Such a meeting earlier scheduled on June 25 was deferred following the death of party’s Rajya Sabha MP and Rajasthan unit chief Madan Lal Saini.

The 75-year-old Saini expired on June 24 at AIIMS in New Delhi due to a lung infection. (UNI)
