Bihar: Woman electrocuted, 12 injured as 11,000 volt wire touches steel railing of temple during satsang

Patna: A woman was electrocuted and 12 people sustained burn injuries when a high-tension live electric wire touched the steel railing of a temple during a spiritual discourse in Bihar's Patna district on Monday, officials said.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
 
Official sources said here on Monday that a religious discourse was going on in the temple at Karkatbigha village in Paliganj block on the occasion of Navratra when the 11,000 volt wire, passing through a transformer, touched the steel railing of the temple.

The devotees, mostly women, came into contact with the railing and sustained burn injuries. One woman was electrocuted on the spot, officials said.

District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh directed the SDO and SDPO to inquire into the incident and submit a report within two days.

The family members of the deceased have been given a financial assistance of Rs 25000 by the administration.

The engineers of the electricity company have also been asked to provide financial assistance to the victims, officials said.
