Lucknow: BJP on Wednesday gave Rajya Sabha bypoll ticket to party media panelist Syed Zafar Islam from Uttar Pradesh, in the seat fell vacant after the death of Amar Singh.
According to party sources here, Mr Zafar Islam, a former investment banker, was instrumental in roping in Congress Madhya Pradesh leader Jyotiraditya Scindia to the party fold.
Zafar Islam is said to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi too.Last date for filing of the nomination is September 1 and September 4 last date for withdrawal.
If required, polling would be held on September 11 and the result would be declared on the same day.As the BJP has majority in the UP assembly hence the any candidate given by BJP would be elected unopposed.
Amar Singh died after a prolonged illness in Singapore on August 1.The term of the RS seat is up to July 4, 2022.(UNI)
