New Delhi: A total of 5,81,442,42 new members of BJP have been formed  through online registration, while the figure would reach the seven crore mark, after adding the offline members, BJP Working President JP Nadda said here on Thursday.
Addressing  a press conference here, Mr Nadda said the number of party members has increased by more than 50 per cent. The membership drive was started on July 6 and ended on August 20. Due to the floods, the membership campaign was  stopped in many parts of the country, he added.

Apart from online registration, members have also been made through many other mediums, which are being digitised. If all these are included, then the membership of the party is likely to be around seven crore. He said that about 90 lakh saplings were also planted during the membership drive.

The youth, women, sportsmen, former Army personnel and officers have taken the membership of BJP, due to the policies and programmes of the party. A large number of people have become members in West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir, he added.

About one crore people have joined BJP in West Bengal, Mr Nadda said, adding that the organisation has been strengthened at the booth level, under the special scheme in this state.
People there want to get rid of the Mamata government, he said, adding that all the voters at booth number 14 of Charasama in Patan district of Gujarat, have become members of BJP.
He said the national election of the party would be held in December.(UNI)
