New Delhi: The BJP Member Anshul Verma today demanded amendment in the dowry law especially in connection to the highly controversial section 498(A) and alleged that this piece of law has only become a tool for harassment of men. The law must be "pro-women and not anti-men", he said raising the issue during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha.

He went to the extent calling certain provisions in anti-dowry law as "legal terrorism" and said, the section 498(A) in the Indian Penal Code be suitably amended so that women's respect is preserved but no man to forced to suffer.

He pointed out that between 1998 to 2015 -- as many as 27-lakh people were arrested under this section and maintained that certain lapses in the law ought to be amended at the earliest so that -- "men also get justice". During Zero Hour in the Lower House of Parliament today, NCP member Dhananjay Mahadik said the imposition of GST on idols has made them expensive.

He demanded that as the Ganesh festival was round the corner in Maharashtra, idols be exempted from the new tax regime. Mr Mahadik's remarks drew Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to observe that "as everything is given by God, some amount can be spent on Him too". Other members like Bhairon Prasad Mishra (BJP) and Srirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena) also supported the contentions of NCP lawmaker. (UNI)
