New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, died on Tuesday morning at Medanta Hospital near Gurugram.He was 68 years old.
Chauhan was hospitalised for almost a month and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhopal after being tested positive for coronavirus on January 11. As his condition deteriorated, he was brought to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
Family sources said that his body will be taken to his hometown Khandwa in the afternoon.
Soft-spoken and sociable, Mr Chauhan won from Khandwa for the sixth time in the Lok Sabha. He was appointed as the President of Madhya Pradesh BJP in 2015.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to the micro blogging site and tweeted Saddened by the demise of Lok Sabha MP from Khandwa Shri Nandkumar Singh Chauhan Ji. He will be remembered for his contributions to Parliamentary proceedings, organisational skills and efforts to strengthen the BJP across Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan tweeted to pay homage to the departed soul," Nandu Bhaiya worked tooth and nail as state party president. His body will be received in his hometown. I pay condolence.
Once a popular local leader Kailash Vijayvargiya who is presently handling responsibilities of poll-bound West Bengal also paid homage to the departed soul. Kailash Vijayvargiya tweeted," Former BJP president Nandkumar Chauhan had huge popularity in public at large. Not only in Khandwa he was known as "Nandu Bhaiya" in the entire state.
