Chandigarh: Amid the raging COVID-19 pandemic in the country, Indian Army in a joint effort with Ambala District Civil Administration, Red Cross Society and Directorate General Health Haryana organised a blood donation camp at Sirhind Club Ambala Cantt on the occasion of World Blood Donation Day here on Monday.
A dedicated team of doctors and para medical staff from Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt along with volunteers from Patiala based Airawat Division conducted the blood donation camp to augment the blood bank amid the pandemic.
All COVID-19 precautions including COVID-19 testing of volunteers was carried out before the camp. A total of 150 volunteers from Army Units based at Ambala donated blood and made the event a grand success.The humane gesture of Indian Army was appreciated by the local people. It will go a long way in strengthening the Civil Military Cooperation in fighting the pandemic.

:On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan issued a clarion call to citizens vis-à-vis undertaking a resolve to donate the life-saving fluid and inspiring others towards the noble cause.
“Perceive the Almighty in every living being and offer selfless service; only then will human life have meaning,” the senior politician conveyed via social media.
Blood donors noble gesture must be acknowledged : Telangana Guv
Saluting the blood donors for their noble gesture to save precious lives, Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said that blood donation is a great gift of life.
Virtual interacting with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Telangana State functionaries on the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day-2021 from Raj Bhavan, here, Dr Soundararajan said that we all must acknowledge the service of the blood donors.
The Governor, while referring to the scarcity of the blood due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic conditions, urged the youth to come forward to donate blood to save many precious lives and be the lifesavers.
“Availability of the required blood units is a critical factor in the healthcare system, she said the Covid-19 pandemic has aggravated the crisis of shortage of blood units to perform many life saving surgeries and transfusion of blood to the needy,” she said.
The Governor called upon the Red Cross functionaries to re-strategise their blood donation action plan so as to motivate more and more people to donate blood in these pandemic times.
“It is our duty to create the best and safe blood donation facilities and ensure the best of the morale of the blood donors. It is high time that community participation and strengthening the Youth Red Cross units are vital in mobilizing required units of blood,” she added.
Dr Soundararajan appreciated the efforts of the IRCS for their proactive services in blood donation and supplies to the needy like Thalassemia patients even in the times of pandemic.
The IRCS functionaries from all over the State have elaborated on their activities to the Governor, who is also the President of the IRCS, Telangana State.
Secretary to Governor K. Surendra Mohan, IRCS State Unit Chairman Prakash Reddy, General Secretary Madan Mohan, IRCS blood bank director Dr. K. Pitchi Reddy, and others spoke on the occasion.
