New Delhi: A Varanasi-bound flight from Delhi on Tuesday received a bomb threat at the capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The bomb scare prompted aviation authorities to carry out necessary inspection and evacuation of all the passengers from the aircraft.

Amid ongoing general elections, a string of bomb threats have been received by schools and hospitals leading to disruption in their operations. All of them, however, later during investigation were proved to be fake threats.

"IndiGo flight 6E2211 operating from Delhi to Varanasi had received a specific bomb threat at Delhi airport. All necessary protocols were followed and aircraft was taken to a remote bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies," Gurugram-based budget airline said in a statement today.

"The flight is currently undergoing inspection. Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area," it stated.

According to the airline's representative, flight 6E2211, scheduled to depart from Terminal 2 of IGIA at 5 am, when it received a specific bomb threat. Sources revealed that the word "bomb" was found written on tissue paper in the aircraft's lavatory. This led to the aircraft being moved and passengers evacuated through emergency exits. Bomb disposal squads and aviation security officials conducted a detailed examination of the aircraft, which so far appears to be a false alarm.
