Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday granted transit anticipatory bail to journalist Rana Ayyub in a case filed against her by the Ghaziabad police over a tweet which the police claimed was posted to create communal unrest.
As per the FIR, Ayyub is facing prosecution for uploading a video of old Muslim man being thrashed and forced to say 'Jai Shri Ram'.While granting the bail, Justice P D Naik gave four weeks time to enable her to approach the appropriate court.
As per an esteemed law website, a single bench judged headed by P D Naik granted the protection from arrest so that the defence can reach the appropriate court for a breather.
While the other people who are mentioned on the website are Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt News, journalist Saba Naqvi. Also, there are two congress leader mentioned in the FIR namely Dr Shama Mohammed and Salman Nizami.
The Fir was filed under section 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 505 (publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report with intent to incite), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.(UNI/WD)
