Breach in Red Fort security; priceless gold-diamond studded Kalash stolen

A gold and diamond-studded kalash (ritual urn) worth approximately one crore rupees was stolen from the premises of Delhi's iconic Red Fort during a religious ceremony.Police have identified a suspect from CCTV footage and have indicated that an arrest is likely soon.A symbol of India's pride and historical heritage, Red Fort has always been a testament to the nation's glory. However, this time, this historical site is in the headlines due to a sensational theft.

In recent days, a kalash valued at around Rs 1 crore was stolen from the 15 August Park within the Fort complex during an ongoing religious ceremony of the Jain faith.This incident sent shockwaves through devotees and organizers.Sources said the religious ceremony began on August 28 and is scheduled to continue until September 9. A special stage had been prepared for it, where only people wearing dhoti-kurtas and those with prior entry passes were allowed.

Businessman Sudhir Jain, a resident of Civil Lines, used to bring this precious kalash from his home daily for worship. The kalash was made of 760 grams of gold and was studded with approximately 150 grams of diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.On Tuesday, Sudhir Jain arrived with the kalash for the worship and it was placed on the stage. During this time, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also arrived to attend the ceremony as part of a pre-scheduled programme.

The organizers and devotees became busy in welcoming him, and in the meantime, a suspicious person dressed in a dhoti-kurta took advantage of the situation, took the kalash, and fled. Initially, it was thought that the kalash might have been misplaced somewhere, but when a search began after the event concluded, the theft was revealed.

Upon receiving the complaint of the theft, an e-FIR was registered at the Kotwali police station. A special team was formed under the supervision of ACP Shankar Banerjee.The investigation revealed that the suspect had been coming to the event venue for several days and had mingled with the devotees. Police have also obtained CCTV footage which has captured his activities.Police said the suspect was identified and he would be arrested soon.(UNI)
