Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presented the Union Budget 2021-22. Sitharaman announced a slew of measures to facilitate the recovery of the economy battered by the Coronavirus pandemic, keeping the focus on six pillars from healthcare to infrastructure.

Hailing the Union Budget 2021-22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that it will enhance India’s self-confidence amid Covid 19 pandemic while asserting that the budget envisions self-reliance.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Forget putting cash in the hands of people, Modi Govt plans to handover India’s assets to his crony capitalist friends.”

Senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor took a hilarious dig at the BJP government. Reacting to Budget 2021, Tharoor said, “This BJP government reminds me of the garage mechanic who told his client, ‘I couldn’t fix your brakes, so I made your horn louder.”

Reacting to the Union Budget 2021, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that it will prove beneficial for a few big corporates only while increasing the woes of the common people.

Samajwadi Party criticizes Budget

Samajwadi Party criticised the budget terming it “directionless” and saying it has disappointed the poor, women, farmers and the youth and that no relief has been announced for the middle class.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav also criticised the privatisation of the PSUs and monetisation of the PSU assets saying, the government is making efforts to mobilise resources by selling family silver.  He also questioned the government’s claim of making India a 5 trillion USD economy.

Welcoming the Union budget for the financial year 2021-22, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that even after covid pandemic and facing constraints in revenue collection, the centre has presented a balanced budget.
