Burglars stole gold jewels from district collector's house!

Thanjavur: Burglars broke into the house of Cuddalore District Collector V.Anbuselvan and decamped with 55 sovereigns of gold jewels at Nadiam village near Peravurani in this district in the wee hours of Saturday.
Police said the burglars gained entry into the house by breaking the back door locks and stole the golden jewellery from the steel almirah. The dacoity came to light this afternoon, after the watchman of the house lodged a complaint with police.
 
Mr.Anbuselvan has been serving as the Collector of Cuddalore district and his house was situated at Nadiam village in Thanjavur.He and his family members were in Cuddalore, when the dacoity took place.
 
The dacoits damaged the CCTV camera to hide their identity.Though preliminary assessment stated that around 55 sovereigns of gold jewels kept in the steel almirah might have been stolen by the culprits, the exact quantum of stolen jewellery and the amount of cash, if any would be known after the arrival of Mr.Anbuselvan's family members, police said.
 
Senior police officers and finger print experts visited the house. A sniffer dog was also pressed into the service.Special teams have been formed to arrest the culprits.(UNI)
