LJP and JD (U) leading one seat each, RJD on two seats
 
Patna: Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)`s candidate is leading in Samastipur Lok Sabha while RJD is leading in two seats and one candidate each of JD (U) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and an Independent candidate is leading in one seat each, which went to by polls on October 21.
Sources at the state election office said that AIMIM candidate is leading in Muslim dominated Kishanganj assembly constituency in Kishanganj district, RJD candidate is leading in Simri Bakhtiyarpur constituency in Saharsa district, Independent candidate leading in Daraundha assembly constituency in Siwan district, JD (U) candidate leading in Nathnagar constituency in Bhagalpur district and RJD candidate in Belhar assembly constituency in Banka  district.                                                                                            
In Samastipur Lok Sabha constituency, LJP candidate Prince Raj is leading over Congress candidate Dr Ashok Ram by a margin of 49,468 votes. In the counting of votes so far, Mr Raj polled 1,77,115 votes and Dr Ram polled 1,27,647 votes. On the other hand, Independent candidate Suraj Kumar with 16,704 votes is on the third position.(UNI)

Satara LS bypolls: BJP's star nominee Udayanraje Bhosale trailing behind his NCP rival
 
Mumbai, Oct 24 (UNI ) In a major setback for the BJP, its star nominee Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale was trailing behind his Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) contender Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil in the Satara Lok Sabha bypolls, as per trends till 1300 hrs.
 
Mr Patil is leading with over 1,43,150 votes compared to rival Bhosale's tally 1,27,000, giving anxious moments to the BJP.
 
A direct descendant of the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,Mr Bhosale was the sitting NCP MP from Satara but he quit the party and joined the BJP early September. 
 
Besides prominent BJP leaders,Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally to campaign for the royal heir.
  
Incidentally, Satara is the same constituency where last week NCP President Sharad Pawar had campaigned in the rain, and admitted that selecting Bhosale was a "blunder" on his part, and solicited full support for Mr Patil.
 
Interestingly, Mr Bhosale shocked BJP circles by declaring that if Sharad Pawar decided to contest the Satara Lok Sabha bypolls, he would extend his unconditional support to him.

IUML retains Manjeswaram Assembly Seat in byelection
 
Kasaragod: United Democratic Front (UDF) has retained its supremacy in the Manjeswaram Assembly constituency in the byelection held on October 21.
 
UDF candidate M C Quamarudheen of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) was declared elected after the counting of votes held on Thursday concluded by forenoon.
 
Mr Quamarudheen  defeated his nearest rival Raveesa Tantri Kundar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 7923 votes  The Left Democratic Party (LDF) nominee Sankar Rai could come in third position.
 
Mr Quamsrudheen secured  65,407 votes,  Raveesa Tantri Kundar -  57,484 and Sankar Rai - 38,233.
 
The byelection was necessitated in Manjeswaram  following the demise of  IUML sitting MLA PB Abdul Razak.
 
 
Cong wins Aroor Assembly seat in bypoll
 
Kochi:Congress candidate Shanimol Usman won the byelection to Aroor Assembly seat by a margin of 1,955 votes defeating her nearest rival Manu C Pulickal of CPI(M), on Thursday.Ms Usman secured 68,851 votes while the CPI(M) candidate Pulickal got 66,896 votes. BJP candidate Prakash Babu stood in third position after fetching 16,215 votes. 
 
Congress wrested the Aroor seat from the CPI (M).The bypoll as necessitated following the victory of sitting MLA AM Arif to the Lok Sabha from Alappuzha Constituency in the election held in April this year.(UNI)
 
 
Rajasthan Assembly polls: Congress wins Mandawa, RLP retains Khinvsar
 
Jaipur:Congress candidate Rita Chaudhary on Thursday won Jhunjhunu district's Mandawa seat while Rashtriya Loktantrik Party candidate Narayan Beniwal was elected from Nagaur district's Khinvsar seat in the October 21 Rajasthan Assembly election.
 
Ms Chaudhary defeated her nearest rival and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Sushila Seegda by over 30,000 votes.Mr Beniwal defeated his nearest Congress rival Harendra Mirdha by over 4,000 votes.
 
Ms Chaudhary was leading right from the first round of counting while Khinvsar witnessed neck and neck fight between Congress and RLP.
The by-elections were necessitated after Khinvsar (Nagaur) MLA Hanuman Beniwal and Mandawa (Jhunjhunu) MLA Narendra Kumar were elected to the Lok Sabha in May this year.

Bypoll: IUML State Prez congratulates people for UDF victory in 3 Assembly constituencies in Kerala
 
Kozhikode: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Kerala Unit President Syed Hyderali Sihab Thangal congratulated the people for supporting the United Democratic Front (UDF) in winning 3 Assembly Constituencies, especially the Manjeswaram, in the byelection held on October 21.
 
Buoyed by  the victory in Manjeswaram, Mr Thangal in a release here on Thursday said,  the  big mandate given to the IUML Candidate M C Quamarudheen in Manjeswaram having different liguistic and cultural differences reiterates the people's commitment towards secular values.
 
The party is thankful to the Congress leaders of Karnataka for being part of the victory of UDF candidates in the hustings, he added.(UNI)

TRS wrests Huzunagar Assembly seat from Congress
Hyderabad,  Oct 24 (UNI) Putting up a fine show in the byelection held on October 21, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) scored a spectacular victory in the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency by wresting the seat from the Congress on Thursday.
 
TRS candidate S.Saidhi won the seat by a huge margin of over 40,000 votes trouncing his nearest Congress rival N.Padmavathi.
 
Mr Reddy who had lost to TPCC President N.Uttam Kumar Reddy in the 2018 Assembly election in the state established the lead right from the first round and maintained it till he romped home comfortably.
 
The by-election for the seat was necessitated after Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy vacated it following his election to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda Constituency in April this year.
 
Commenting on his victory, Mr Saidhi said  ''the by-poll result showed that the people were with the TRS Supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao''.
 
Joyous scenes were seen at the Telangana Bhavan, the TRS headquarters in Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad where a large number of party leaders and cadre gathered to celebrate the party's grand showing in the by-poll by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.(UNI)

Ruling BJD candidate Rita Sahu wins Bijepur Assembly by poll with a record margin of 97990 votes
 
Bhubaneswar: Ruling BJD candidate Rita Sahu won the Bijepur Assembly by poll defeating her nearest rival BJP candidate Sanat Gartia by a record margin of 97,990 votes.According the official source, BJD candidate Rita Sahu had garnered 1,35,957 votes while BJP candidate Sanat Gartia had polled 37,967 votes and Congress candidate Dillip Panda polled only 5,876 votes.
 
Ruling BJD retained the seat.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated Rita Sahu for her huge historic winning breaking  all records in the electoral history of Odisha.In the 2019 Assembly election, Mr Somuya Ranjan Patnaik of BJD had won the Khandapara Assembly seat with a record margin of 81,430 votes.
 
In the by election, Rita Sahu not only set a record winning margin but also crossed the winning margin of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who had won the Bijepur Assembly seat n 2019 election defeating BJP candidate Sanat Gartia by a margin of 57,112 votes.
 
The by election to Bijepur Assembly seat was necessitated after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who won both Bijepur and Hinjili assembly seats in 2019 election, vacated the Bijepur seat.
In the 2019 Assembly election, Chief minister Naveen Patnaik had polled 1,10,604 votes while his nearest rival candidate Sanat Gartia of BJP got 53,482 votes and the Congress candidate Ripunath Seth garnered only 14,344 votes.
 
The votes polled by BJP candidate Sanat Gartia in the by election in compare to his last election has disheartened the party's rank and file as BJP was confident of giving a tough fight to the BJD candidate.
 
In 2019 Assembly election, Mr Gartia polled 53,482 votes which has been reduced to 37,967 votes in the just concluded by election.Rita Sahu had won the Bijepur by poll in 2018 defeating her nearest rival Ashok Panigrahi of BJP by a margin of 32,833 votes. This time she almost tripled her winning margin defeating the BJP candidate.
 
The by election in Bijepur in 2018 was necessitated following the demise of sitting Congress MLA Subal Sahu and the ruling BJD nominated his widow Rita Sahu as party candidate to contest the by poll.
 
This time prior to the by poll in Bijepur Assembly seat, senior BJP leader and former MLA Ashok Panigrahi who was an aspirant for the ticket, resigned from the party and openly campaigned in support of BJD candidate Rita Sahu, upsetting the poll prospect of the BJP in the by election.(UNI)

As Cong wins Jhabua By poll, MP CM extols Bhuria
 
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Thursday felicitated erstwhile central minister and five-time parliamentarian Kantilal Bhuria for emerging victorious in the Jhabua Assembly by-poll.  Mr Nath also expressed gratitude to the electorate and Congress workers.
  
"Negating the Bharatiya Janata Party's falsehood and ruse, the populace placed a seal of approval on Congress policies and the dispensation's public interest work. It is indeed a Diwali gift from the public! It is our resolve to transform the Jhabua scene through fulfilment of electoral promises. This triumph has provided us greater robustness. By standing the test vis-a-vis the people's confidence, we shall make a Ganga of development flow in the state with increased vigour," he conveyed via social media.
 
  
 In the Vidhan Sabha polls conducted towards the conclusion of 2018, the Congress assumed the state's reins under Mr Nath's leadership thereby ending one-and-a-half decades of saffron rule. The Congress then had 114 seats in the 230-member House as compared to the BJP's 109. Mr Nath was sworn in on December 17 after garnering support of four independents, a couple of Bahujan Samaj Party legislators and one owing allegiance to the Samajwadi Party. The past ten months witnessed by-elections in Chhindwara and tribal-dominated Jhabua; the former saw Mr Nath romping home.(UNI)

AIADMK wrests two Assembly seats from DMK, Cong, EPS, OPS says people reposes faith on us
 
Chennai:Dealing a big blow to the Opposition DMK, the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu today won the bypolls to two seats--Nanguneri and Vikravandi--and increased its strength in the Assembly to 125. 
 
It turned out to be a one-horse race ever since counting of votes polled in Monday's polling began at 0800 hrs, as the AIADMK candidates gained early lead, which kept increasing 
with every passing round, leaving its arch-rival DMK and its ally, the Congress, distraught.
 
M R Muthamizhselvan (AIADMK), who polled 1,13,745 votes,defeated his nearest DMK rival N Pugazhedi, who polled 68,821 votes, by a margin of 44,924 votes in Vikravandi.
 
In the Nanguneri seat, V Narayanan (AIADMK), who polled 94,347 votes, defeated his Congress rival Ruby Manoharan (contesting as an ally of DMK), who polled 61,134 votes, 
by a margin of over 33,213 votes. 
 
The AIADMK has wrested the Vikravandi and Nanguneri seats from the DMK and the Congress respectively, thereby increasing its strength in the Assembly to 125, including the Speaker. 
 
Naam Tamizhar Katchi candidates finished a distant third in both the Assembly segments, securing 2,913 votes and 3,434 votes in Vikravandi anad Nanguneri respectively.
 
About 0.83 per cent of voters (1,560 votes) opted for None of the Above Option (NOTA) in Vikravandi, where the AIADMK secured 60.29 per cent votes as against 
36.48 per cent by the DMK, while 0.68 per cent voters (1,143 votes) chose NOTA in Nanguneri, wherethe AIADMKgot 55.96 per cent votes, when compared to 36.26 percent by the DMK. 
 
 
The AIADMK's victory handed a serious set back for the DMK, which had been consistently stating that the outcome of the bypolls would be a forerunner to the next Assembly polls due in May 2021.
 
Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami termed the party's by-poll wins in both the seats as a historical victory.
 
Talking to the media at the AIADMK headquarters, he said the victory was a reflection of people's confidence on the party and the government.
 
"Both these constituencies were won by the opposition parties in the 2016 election and now the AIADMK has emerged victorious which shows that people are with 
us", he said. 
 
Coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said the byelection results have showed that the people of Tamil Nadu have reposed their faith in the ruling party. 

"The people have shown that they are with only us. The victory is because of the AIADMK government's achievements," he told reporters in Madurai.
 
The Vikravandi seat fell vacant following the death of DMK MLA K Rathamani in June, while the bypoll to Nanguneri was caused following the resignation of Congress MLA H Vasantha Kumar after his election to the Lok Sabha.
 
The strength of the AIADMK in the 234-member Assembly increased to 125 MLAs from the present 123.The DMK has 100 Legislators, its allies Congress (7) and IUML (one), 
besides an Independent.

Arunachal: Chakat Aboh wins Khonsa West by-election
 
Itanagar: Independent candidate Chakat Aboh on Thursday won the Khonsa West Assembly by-election by a margin of 1887 votes in north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Aboh, the wife of slain National People's Party (NPP) leader Tirong Aboh, polled 5705 votes while her rival Independent candidate Azet Homtok, 3818 votes, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Liken Koyu said.
 
Out of 144 Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot (service voters) and Postal Ballot (polling officials) casted, Aboh got 91 votes and Homtok 33 and 20 got rejected, he said, adding , NOTA votes polled 68, the Deputy CEO said.Aboh, was backed by five major political parties, including ruling BJP and opposition Congress, for the by-election.
 
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Aboh for winning the Khonsa West by-election Assembly."Congrats to Chakat Aboh for winning the 56-Khonsa West by-election Assembly seat by 1887 votes as Independent candidate. I also congratulate BJP workers for their effort in getting her elected as an MLA," the CM tweeted.
 
An estimated 93. 2 per cent of the 10,309 electorates including service voters exercised their franchise for the by-election to Khonsa West Assembly seat in Tirap district held on Monday.
The by-election to the Khonsa West seat was necessitated after Tirong Aboh, who contested the April 11 Assembly election as NPP nominee and got re-elected from the said seat, was gunned down by suspected NSCN militants in Tirap district on May 21, two days ahead of polls results.
 
With Aboh's win, the strength of women representatives in the 60-member Arunachal Assembly has become four.Out of 60-member Assembly, BJP has 41 MLAs,  Congress and NPP four each, JD (U) seven, PPA one and three Independents.

CM thanks people of Pachhad, Dharamshala for electing BJP candidates
 
Shimla, Oct 24 (UNI) Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has thanked the people of Pachhad and Dharamshala Assembly constituencies for electing the BJP candidates in the bye-elections for which votes were accounted on Thursday.
 
The Chief Minister said people of these constituencies have expressed faith and confidence in the policies and programmes of the present BJP government which was committed for the welfare of the people and development of the State. 
 
He also thanked the party workers for relentlessly ensuring the victory of the party candidates in those bye-elections.Mr Thakur said that State government had strived hard to come up to the aspirations and expectations of the people during its last about two years.He said that various welfare and employment oriented schemes have been initiated by the government.
 
Jai Ram Thakur said that BJP Government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National BJP Party President Amit Shah and Working National BJP Party J P Nadda was working for welfare of the people of the country to ameliorate the conditions of the people.

Assam by-polls: BJP wins one, leads in 2; AIUDF to bag fourth
Guwahati, Oct 24 (UNI) The ruling BJP has won one out of four Assembly constituencies in Assam for which by-polls were held, with the party leading in another two and Opposition All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leading in the fourth.
 
BJP has retained Ratabari constituency, with its candidate Bijoy Malakar winning over nearest Congress rival by a margin of 24001 votes, as per results made available through Election Commission of India.
 
The party's candidates, Nabanita Handique in Sonari and Rajen Borthakur in Rangapara, are also leading in their respective constituencies over their nearest Congress rivals with margins of 13,000 and 49,000 votes respectively.
 
In Jania constituency, AIUDF candidate Rafiqul Islam looks poised to wrestle the seat out of Congress, the main Opposition party in the state, as he is leading over his Congress rival by more than 31,000 votes.
 
The BJP looks well placed to retain its seats for which by-polls were conducted, while the Congress is staring at losing its seat to AIUDF.The by-polls, conducted on October 21, were necessitated due to election of incumbent MLAs to the Lok Sabha.UNI
