New Delhi: In an effort to restore the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Government has decided to bring the necessary changes in the Act with the Cabinet giving an approval to a Bill in this regard.
Addressing reporters here, Union Minister and Lok Jan Shakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan said that a decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of the Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that the bill will be introduced in Parliament in the next two to three days.According to Mr Paswan, the Prime Minister said at the meeting that if the need arises, the provisions of the law will be further strengthened.
In the beginning, there were 22 provisions in the law, but later 25 more provisions were added in it. More provisions would be included in the law to further strengthen it.In its order on March 20, the Supreme court had removed some provisions of the Act, including immediate arrest of an accused under the Act.(UNI)
