CBI arrests CGST officer, two others ‘who confined Mumbai businessman for 18 hours for Rs 60-lakh bribe’

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an officer of the Central Good and Services Tax department and two others in a case of an 18-hour illegal confinement of a Mumbai businessman to demand a bribe of Rs 60 lakh, an official said here on Sunday.
 
CGST (Anti-evasion) superintendent Sachin Gokulka from the Mumbai West commissionerate and two others were allegedly caught accepting Rs 20 lakh, a part of the Rs 60 lakh demanded as a bribe.
 
The complainant said Rs 30-lakh bribe was paid earlier through a hawala transaction.
 
The CGST officials had allegedly confined the complainant businessman for the whole night at their Santacruz office and assaulted and abused him, demanding the bribe.
