Mohali: Students of Chandigarh University ended their protest on Monday after getting an affirm assurance from the district and police administration of a fair and transparent investigation into the MMS videos leak.
Chandigarh University will remain closed till September 24 after massive protests by students demanding action on the alleged leak of objectionable videos from its girls’ hostel.
After the incident, a few students left for their homes. The university suspended the girls’ hostel warden, Rajvinder Kaur, for misbehaving with the girl students.
The Punjab Police on Monday formed a three-member special investigation team to probe the allegations of recording objectionable videos of the girls students. The SIT is headed by senior IPS officer Gurpreet Kaur Deo.
No guilty person involved will be spared, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
The student protests erupted on Saturday and continued on Sunday over the university’s alleged leaked objectionable videos. The police have arrested a girl and her two boyfriends.
Earlier on Sunday, Himachal Pradesh Police said they have nabbed a second accused in the row.
"Himachal Pradesh Police reacted to request of Punjab Police with sensitivity and professionalism. We nabbed the accused," DGP Sanjay Kundu said on Twitter. (UNI)
