New Delhi:Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has written to the Centre that the second senior most judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Sanjay Arvind Bobde, be considered for his successor, according to apex court registry officials.
Justice Bobde is the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, after the CJI.
CJI Gogoi is slated to retire on November 17, Sunday, 2019, after he will, on the next day, cross the age of 65 years.
The CJI's letter is in keeping with the tradition of recommendation and writing to the Centre.
CJI Gogoi has written a letter and recommended to the Central government today, exactly one month before his retirement, that Justice Bobde may be considered for his successor. If the Centre appoints Justice Bobde as the next CJI, then he would be the 47th and his tenure will be over in April 23, 2021, after two years in office.(UNI)
