New Delhi: Declining any comment on senior party leader Digvijay Singh's tweet on PM Modi, the Congress today said that it would not say anything in this regard as the veteran leader had already issued a clarification in the matter. Talking to reporters here, AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala said,'Mr Digvijay Singh has already issued a clarification in the matter. So there is not need for any comment from the party.' In a tweet earlier today, Mr Digvijay Singh tweeted a meme (image and a piece of text) using derogatory words against PM Modi.

Noting that the meme wasn't his own, the Rajya Sabha member tweeted, "Not mine but couldn't help posting it. My apologies to the person concerned. He is the best in the 'art of fooling,". Later, Mr Digvijay Singh, however, said that he did not endorse it. "Retweets are never endorsements. This is the basic principle of Twitter," Digvijaya Singh told reporters here. After his tweet triggered a controversy, the Congress leader said that the words used by him — "He is the best in the 'Art of Fooling'" — are "not derogatory".

In another tweet, he asked mediapersons why they were not questioning the Prime Minister who "did not tweet a word of condemnation on journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder". "Does Modiji, who tweets on even very trivial things, not have time to write a word in condemnation of that lady's murder who, much like her illustrious father, fought all her life against the people who are spreading poison of communalism in our society?" Singh said. He also demanded to know why Modi had not "unfollowed" four people who used abusive language against Lankesh after her murder. (UNI)
