Cong workers miffed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi over his appearance for TMC in SC

Kolkata: Congress activists for the second day today waved black flags at party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi protesting his appearance in the Supreme Court for the West Bengal government in a case filed by the BJP seeking judicial remedy into the violence over filing of nomination papers for panchayat polls across the state.

Mr Singhvi, who recently won the Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal with the support from the TMC, advocated on behalf of the West Bengal and opposed the BJP’s plea to deploy central paramilitary forces during polls on May 1, 3 and 5. The State government wanted to cover the polls with the state police. But all the opposition parties, the BJP, Congress and Left demanding deployment of central forces as unabated violence reported from April 2 from across the state over filing of nomination papers.

The oppositions charged the state government as well as State Election Commission for failing to provide security to the applicants, even at the government offices, from being manhandled. Many CPI(M) leaders, including central committee members, like Basudeb Acharya and Ramchanda Dome were bleed in the attacks.Mr Singhvi was show black flags by the Congress supporters while he was going to attend a meeting in south Kolkata on Saturday and again he was shown opposition while entering the city air port for departure.

" Go back Abhishek Manu Singhvi and shame shame" slogans rent the airport gate this morning. Even the celebrated lawyer waved his victory sign at the protestors.State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, who appeared himself in Calcutta High Court to seek judicial intervention over the violence in the state over filing of nomination, criticised Mr Singvi for his appearance in the supreme court.Mr Singhvi had said he appeared for the state government to argue against the BJP's petition.(UNI)
