Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President YS Sharmila demanded a CBI investigation on the reports of using animal fat oil to make ‘Laddu Prasada’ of famous hill shrine Tirumala by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

Talking to the media here on Friday, the APCC President regretted that the Hindu devotees are expressing concern in the country and abroad about the use of animal fat oil to make the sacred Laddu Prasad.

“We demand an investigation by the CBI on the report of using animal fat oil by the TTD board to make the sacred Laddu Prasadam. The report of making Laddu Prasadam using animal fat oil hurt the sentiments of devotees. The lab report revealed that the ghee used to make Laddu Prasadam contained residues of beef oil and fish oil. The issue pertains to the sentiments of devotees,” Sharmila added.

She said, “We are meeting the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on the issue. We will also write a letter to the Union Home Minister demanding the CBI probe on using animal fat oil to make Laddu prasadam of Tirumala shrine.”

The Congress leader alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had taken the issue lightly. Though the issue came to light on July 23, why the Naidu-headed government hesitated till now to disclose, she questioned.
