Congress to have new president by June: CWC

New Delhi: The Congress will have an elected president by June this year as the process of organisational polls will start on May 29, party’s General Secretary KC Venugopal said here on Friday.

Announcing the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, Mr Venugopal said, “The CWC unanimously decided that the new elected Congress president should be in place in June 2021. The CWC considered the election schedule of May 29 proposed by the central election authority and unanimously agreed to extend the schedule until June as counting for five state elections could be happening in May.”

Party sources said that CWC also passed four  resolutions - the first to demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)  probe into Whatapp  chat leaks saying “those guilty of treasonous acts and of violating the official secrets act and breaching national security must be punished”; a second on demanding the repeal of farm laws, appealing  people of India to come forward for vaccination and  also thanking the scientists and last resolution that the  Congress  president being authorised to fix a date for organisational election  keeping in view the election schedule in five  states.

Completely denying any spat among the leaders in the CWC, Mr Venugopal said that there were no arguments in the meeting. (UNI)
