Constable killed as burqa-clad militants attack Shopian police station

Srinagar: A Constable was killed after burqa-clad militants attacked a police station in south Kashmir district of Shopian and decamped his service rifle this morning. 

According to official sources, a group of burqa-clad militants knocked the main gate of Police Station Shopian, early on Sunday morning when the sentry, identified as Constable Saqib Mohiuddin Mir, opened the gate, militants fired at him. Mir was injured in the attack.

“Before the security force personnel in the police station could react, militants escaped with the service weapon of Mir,”. The policeman was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack.

“Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated in the matter,” he added. (UNI)
