, Friday, 31 January 2020 (12:59 IST)
New Delhi: A day after Government of India established contacts with 600 Indians living in China’s corona virus-hit Hubei province, national carrier Air India’s 423-seater jumbo B747 plane will depart from Delhi airport on Friday to Wuhan to evacuate Indian nationals.

“The national carrier (Air India) once again comes to the rescue - this time to evacuate Indians from Wuhan, the site of the outbreak of corona virus. This mission begins today with a Jumbo 747 operating between Delhi and Wuhan,” Air India spokesperson Ashwani Lohani said in a tweet.

The flight is expected to return India after 0200 hours past mid-night with about 400 Indians, he said.

The death toll in China’s novel corona virus outbreak reached 213.

Hubei province in China, the epicentre of the outbreak, reported over 5800 confirmed cases including 204 deaths.

The Chinese government has said on Thursday that it pays “close attention” to the report of the emergence of one confirmed case of pneumonia caused by the novel Corona virus in India, and will cooperate with the Indian side to jointly strengthen the epidemic prevention and control.

The Chinese statement came after a positive case of virus was reported in Kerala. (UNI)
