New Delhi: The novel Coronavirus cases in the country crossed the 26,000-mark on Sunday morning with the number of cases shooting to 26,496, as per the government data.
With an increase in the casualties in the past 24 hours, the death toll mounted to 824 this morning, Union Health Ministry said in its report.
The active cases of COVID-19 in the country at present stands at 19,868.
Meanwhile, the number of cured and discharged cases of COVID-19 have increased to 5,803 pan India, the data revealed.
Across the nation, the maximum cases and casualties have been reported in the state of Maharashtra with the number jumping to 7,628 cases and 323 deaths reported so far.
Gujarat, the state with the second-highest number of COVID cases since the past couple of days have witnessed a rapid increase in the infection with the state-wise figure now standing at 3,071 and 133 deaths so far.
Cases have also increased in the national capital where the number is 2,625 with casualties mounting to 54, while Madhya Pradesh now houses a total of 2,096 COVID cases and 99 succumbing to the virus so far.
Rajasthan has reached a tally of 2,083 cases with 33 deaths, Tamil Nadu 1,821 with 23 casualties and in Uttar Pradesh, the number of cases now stand at 1,793 with 27 deaths reported so far.
Sunday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ saluted the spirit of countrymen and said that India’s battle against COVID-19 is being fought by its people who have shown resolve and brought about a new change in the country.
Asserting that the fight against COVID-19 was people-driven in his monthly broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’, he said, “Our fight against COVID-19 is truly people-driven. People of our country are fighting this war along with the administration. We are also fighting poverty. I am proud that all of us are part of it.”
“All of us are soldiers in this fight,” he underlined.
On Saturday, in an initiative by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, a Control Room has been set up in the Lok Sabha Secretariat with immediate effect to facilitate a quicker interface between MPs, MLAs and the public for emergency assistance in the fight against COVID-19.
Following suit, Rajasthan, Haryana, Odisha, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh have become the first states, wherein control rooms have been set up in their respective Legislature Secretariats. (UNI)
