New Delhi: In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19 nationwide lockdown, the Indian Railways and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday announced suspension all its services till May 3.
“It has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway etc shall continue to remain cancel till the 2400hrs of May 3, 2020,” an official from Indian Railways said.
However, in an effort to ensure the essential supplies in various parts of the country, movement of goods and Parcel trains will remain continue.
All counters for booking of rail journey tickets for reserved and unreserved travel at railway stations and outside railway station premises shall remain closed till May 3.
On civil aviation part, “All domestic and international scheduled airlines operations shall remain suspended till11:59pm of 03 May 2020,” the DGCA said in a tweet.
The decision was taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the lockdown across the country will be extended till May 3 to fight the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier, all services were shut till April 14 midnight.
While addressing the nation on Tuesday, Mr Modi said that the implementation of the lockdown will be strictly ensured in the coming days to ensure that the virus does not spread to new areas.
He added that the detailed guidelines on the implementation of the new lockdown period will be announced on Wednesday.
PM Modi said that some relaxations may be allowed after April 20 in places (hotspots) from where no cases have been reported.
According to the Union Health Ministry, at least 10,363 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the country. At least 339 people have lost their lives. The figures also include 1,036 cured patients. (UNI)
