Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed in militant firing in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama early Saturday morning, official sources said.
They said security forces, on a tip-off about the presence of militants in village Takiya Wangam, Pulwama, launched a CASO operation this morning. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants opened fire with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated and in the initial fire fight, a security force jawan, Manjit Kumar, was critically wounded.
He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed, they said.The sources said the militants managed to escape from the area.(UNI)
