Madurai (Tamil Nadu): Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) Madurai district north deputy secretary C.Balasubramanian (48) was hacked to death by an unidentified gang on the Vallabai Road at Chokkikulam locality in the city on Tuesday.
Police said the gang waylaid Balasubramanian, while he was on morning walk and attacked him with sickles killing him on the spot. The gang fled the scene after committing the murder.
The attack was staged near the residence of a senior Minister of Tamil Nadu cabinet.
The body was removed to Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) for post-mortem.
City Commissioner of Police J.Loganathan visited the crime scene and held inquiry.
According to police, Balasubramanian, a resident of Sellur area was a history sheeter and several criminal cases, including murder cases were pending against him.
Police, however denied it is a political murder and it might have been the fall out of some family or over financial disputes.
The NTK functionary’s murder comes just a week after the brutal murder of Bahujan Samaj Party’s Tamil Nadu State President K.Armstrong at Chennai that had sent shock waves across the State.
