Delhi bans Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in public places

New Delhi: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Wednesday decided not to allow the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi at public places in view of Covid situation in the national capital.

In its official’s order, DDMA said Wednesday, that “Ganesh Chaturthi Festival will be celebrated during this month i.e. in the month of September, considering the prevailing restrictions on gathering and congregations and present situation of Covid-19 pandemic, it has been decided that Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations may not be allowed at the public places,”

“People may be advised to celebrate the festival at their homes,” said the DDMA.

DDAM also directed the all districts Magistrate of Delhi and their counterpart Districts Commissioners of Police and concerned authorities to ensure that no idol of Ganesh will be set up in tents, pandals or at public places.

“Permission will not be granted for the procession and the public will be encouraged to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival at their homes. Further, it should be ensured that the crowd does not gather in any religious or public places,” it said.

Ganesh Chaturthi, a ten-day festival that starts on the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month Bhadrapada, will start on September 10 this year. (UNI)
