New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party has suspended its councillor Tahir Hussain after he was booked by the Delhi Police over the charges of murder of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma.

The IB official was found dead in a drain of violence-hit Chand Bagh area.

The 43-year-old councillor from Nehru Vihar (East Delhi) would remain suspended till the investigations, sources in AAP said.

The police has registered a case against Hussain under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 365 (kidnapping, abducting) and 302 (murder).

Body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. According to sources, the body has multiple stab injuries. Ankit disappeared on Monday evening and his body was found on Wednesday morning.

The factory run by Hussain has also been sealed.

Holding a press conference on Thursday evening, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said there should not be any politics over the country’s security and sought strictest punishment for the rioters.

“If my minister is involved in violence, take strict action...If anyone from AAP is found guilty, double punishment should be given,” he added.

At least 34 people were killed and more than 180 injured in violent clashes in North East Delhi over newly amended citizenship act. (UNI)
