New Delhi: A man and another woman were arrested on Friday for a brutal and humiliating gang-rape and assault on a woman at Kasturba Nagar in the Indian capital, police said.

Seven women and two juveniles were taken into custody on Thursday.

A senior police official said two accused, including a woman, were arrested on Friday, taking the total number of arrests to 11.

The police were trying to identify more people to be arrested after watching a video clip of the horrific incident.

Two days ago, a 20-year-old woman's head was shaved and face blackened and she was paraded with a garland of shoes at Kasturba Nagar near Vivek Vihar in east Delhi.

Some of the women reportedly egged on the men to rape the victim. The video clip showed showing several persons surrounding the woman and thrashing her even as some hurled abuses

The seven women arrested on Thursday were identified as Shalu (36), Rajji (40), Prerna (18), Komal (25), Varsha (38), Priti (36) and Baby (40). All are residents of Kasturba Nagar.

A Delhi Police tweet said, "After sincere efforts, police have nabbed nine persons, including two juveniles, in the sexual assault case. "

A senior police official said seven people have been arrested and two others were being interrogated regarding the incident. Efforts went on to identify the other people surrounding the woman, when she was beaten up and paraded on the streets.

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police, seeking action against those involved in the alleged abduction, sexual assault and disgracing of the woman in Vivek Vihar.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said a video of the incident was received by the Commission, which showed the sad plight of the victim.

The Commission asked Delhi Police to submit a detailed Action Taken Report within 72 hours.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on this matter and said this was very 'shameful'. "How did the criminals get so courageous? I urge the Union Home Minister and the Lieutenant Governor to instruct the police to take strict action, pay attention to the law and order situation. Delhiites will not tolerate such heinous crime and criminals at any cost," he added. (UNI)
