Dera violence: SIT files charge sheet against Honeypreet, 14 others

Panchkula: Haryana Police on Tuesday filed charge sheet against Honeypreet Insaan,the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, and 14 others accused in a local court here in connection with the August 25 violence in Panchkula and Sirsa.According to the charge sheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the case, in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Honeypreet played a major role before and during the violence that occurred in Panchkula and Sirsa after the special CBI court in Panchkula convicted Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on August 25 in two cases of rapes. 

















As many as 42 people were killed and over 200 injured in the police action to curb the violence.While Honeypreet and 11 others have been charged with sedition, criminal conspiracy, besides other offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), three others have been charged with harbouring offender who has escaped from custody or giving shelter to Honeypreet when she was on the run. The case against all the accused was registered at the Sector 5 police station here on August 28.Honeypreet went into hiding for 38 days and was arrested alongwith her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur from the Zirakpur-Patiala highway on October 4.Aditya Insan, a close aide of Dera chief is still at large since the Panchkula violence.(UNI)
