, Thursday, 20 May 2021 (15:53 IST)
Agartala: The ruling BJP has continued getting large scale desertion of cadres and losing the panchayats and village committees in tribal areas after losing ADC elections in Tripura last month.
A large number of village committees of ADC area has been occupied by TIPRA Motha evicting the nominated councils of BJP and IPFT. Similarly, three tire panchayats that were won by BJP unopposed soon after the formation of government in the state have been losing in trust vote across the state.

“About 100 panchayats and panchayat samities that won BJP without any elections are now losing in mistrust. After TIPRA Motha won ADC, village committees were also captured by them. And, ruling BJP and IPFT MLAs and ministers are now daring to visit tribal areas,” the police report said.

Revolting against the ruling formation, as many as 450 voters from 150 families of ruling BJP including four elected panchayat members and several booth level leaders left the party in East Gakulnagar area under Kamalasagar assembly constituency of Sepahijala district. They accused the atrocities of BJP youth front cadres, misrule and lawlessness in the state.

No rule of law in Tripura now: Veteran minister of Biplab's cabinet

Agartala: Upset with the attack on him in his own constituency Takarjala, near Agartala senior-most minister of Biplab Kumar Deb’s cabinet in Tripura, Revenue Minister and chief of BJP’s alliance partner IPFT N C Debbarma today criticised the state government on law and order issue.

According to a report, hundreds of people waved black flags and shouted ‘go back” slogans after Debbarma had reached the community hall at Takarjala yesterday afternoon to address a party meeting of IPFT. This was his first visit to the constituency after zeroing down in the autonomous district council (ADC) election last month.

The IPFT blamed royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman’s party TIPRA Motha for the incident and alleged that the crowd was politically motivated. When Debbarma was interacting with his party leaders inside the hall people had started gathering there and suddenly voiced slogans against N C Debbarma and his party raising black flags, police said.

Somehow police put up barricades to thwart the crowd and rescued the minister from the hall. The people abused Debbarma and chased his convoy for a few kilometres. They alleged that IPFT was voted to power by the tribals in 2018 believing the commitment of BJP and IPFT that Tripura would see an exemplary development but in three years it all appeared farce.

“N C Debbarma sought a vote saying that once IPFT gets into the government there will be Tipraland and the development of ADC area will be at par with other cities of the country. Youths will be given jobs and industries would be set up for a vibrant development but now the situation of tribal people has become worse. Joblessness, hunger and criminal activities become a daily routine of the state that irritates the locals,” Jai Kishore Debbarma, a resident of the locality said.

However, Debbarma told the media, “There is no rule of law in Tripura now. In 85 years of my life, I had never come across such a situation where police became helpless before the political crowd. Raising a voice against anybody or criticising any minister is a democratic right of the citizens but it should not be violent and abusive. I am really upset to face the situation.”

The minister said, “This cannot continue in a democratic set-up. This is clear hooliganism, the law and order situation has stooped to a new low in the state. Not as a minister, as a responsible citizen of the state, I am urging the home department of the state to take stern actions and restore normalcy in the system. It’s a clear reflection of anarchy in the governance.”(UNI)
