Elderly man and family attacked, set upon by pet dog in Delhi altercation

New Delhi: A late night attempt to move a scooter turned into a violent assault for an elderly man and his family in Delhi's Welcome area on the evening of September 14. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 pm, involved an alleged physical attack and the shocking use of a pet dog to inflict harm.

According to information, the altercation began when an elderly man, Arvind Rathod, went outside his home to bring his scooter inside. He later informed his son, Ketan Rathod, that a local resident named Shalu had verbally abused him.

Ketan, along with other family members, went down to the street to speak with Shalu and ask him to refrain from such behaviour. The situation quickly escalated. Shalu allegedly along with his companions, allegedly began assaulting Ketan and his elderly father.

The victims said that Shalu then went to his home and returned with his pet dog and a stick. He allegedly set the dog upon the Rathod family. The animal severely bit several members of the family.

The assault continued as Shalu and his associates were accused of beating the victims with sticks, kicks, and punches. The police were called to the scene and all injured parties were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Based on the family's statement, an FIR has been registered and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
