Ex Andhra cricketer held for impersonating Telangana CM’s OSD to extort money

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have arrested a 32-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh on charges of impersonating as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and attempting to extort money from businesspersons using fake email IDs and WhatsApp accounts, a police release here on Thursday.

The accused B Nagaraju, a former State-level cricket player of Andhra Pradesh, is a native of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.

Based on a complaint from the CM’s OSD, the cybercrime police booked a case accused U/s 66C, 66D of the IT Act, and Section 319(2) of the BNS by the Cyber Crime Unit, Hyderabad and nabbed Nagaraju from Narsannapeta village (Srikakulam District).

A mobile was seized from the accused. The accused had created fake email ID [email protected] and sent fraudulent emails to various business persons while impersonating the Personal Secretary and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Telangana State. He is involved in 13 cases in Telangana State and 16 cases in Andhra Pradesh State.

Additionally, a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) is pending against him in the XII ACMM Court, Nampally, Hyderabad.

On multiple occasions in the past, it has come to their attention that the accused had contacted various individuals via Email, WhatsApp, and Phone Calls, which includes Aravind Sanka, MD of Rapido, Srinivas Gupta Verrabomma, Chairman of Gupta Realty, Krishna Mohan Bollineni, MD of Bekem Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd, Chakradhar & Nitin Koushal, MD of Country delight, and several others in an effort to solicit financial assistance.

The accused created fake email ids and WhatsApp accounts with the email id of persons who are in high positions in government and would send emails, Messages, WhatsApp calls to persons who are rich and holding different businesses, companies and are highly reputed in the society, in an effort to solicit financial assistance.

The team headed by the Inspector of Police S. Mattam Raju, consisting of team members SIs A Shailendra Kumar, K Hima Reddy and PCs P Ashok and K Ajay Kumar have cracked the case.
