Pahalgam: Warning of strict action against anyone doing wrong, the Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat said exemplary punishment would be given to Major Leetul Gogoi if he was found guilty of any offence.Maj Gogoi was on Wednesday briefly detained by police after an altercation when he was allegedly trying to enter a hotel in Srinagar with a local girl.
"If anyone in Indian Army, at any rank, does anything wrong and it comes to our notice the strict action will be taken," Gen Rawat told reporters at this world famous health resort while on a visit to the Army Goodwill School.
"If Maj Gogoi has done anything wrong, I assure you that he will be given due punishment? and the punishment will be such that it will set an example," the Army Chief added.Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, S P Pani on Wednesday ordered a probe into the incident involving Maj Gogoi.
Maj Gogoi hit the headlines after he tied a youth with a jeep and later paraded him in central Kashmir district of Budgam in April 2017, during the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency by-election, attracting sharp criticism from Kashmir and rest of the world.Gen Rawat awarded Gogoi a commendation card for his "sustained efforts" on counter-insurgency operations when a court of inquiry was going on against the Major in the human shield case.
