New Delhi: If the exit polls prediction for elections to three northeastern states are to come true, the BJP is set to get a pleasant surprise as the survey says the saffron party is all set to wrest power in CPI-M ruled Tripura and Congress could lose out yet another state - Meghalaya.The NDPP-BJP alliance is also set to do well in Nagaland - elections for which was held on Tuesday.
As a major shock for BJP's bitter critics the communists, the JanKiBaat-NewsX has predicted that the BJP-IPFT alliance in Tripura will wrest 35-45 seats with a vote share of 51 per cent leaving only 14 to 23 for the CPI-M led Left Front.Giving setback to the leftists, another exit poll by AxisMyIndia predicts 44-50 seats for the BJP-IPFT indicating that the red fortress will be conquered by the saffron outfit with a vote share of 49 per cent.
The CVoter Exit Poll has, however, gives a minor consolation to the Left as the survey predicts a close finish in Tripura, with the CPI-M likely to get 26 to 34 seats in the 60-member assembly with 44.3 per cent vote share.This survey has given the BJP and its ally IPFT 24 to 32 seats with a vote share of 42.8 per cent.
The Congress party, which lost ground in the run up to the polls, is likely to win only 0-2 seats with a vote share of 7.2 per cent.
BJP leader Ram Madhav seemed to have welcomed the exit polls prediction and tweeted: "First Exit Polls by News X-Jan Ki Baat predicts 31-37 seats for BJP and 37 plus for BJP alliance in Tripura. It predicts a comfortable victory for BJP in Tripura. Of course for cynics, it's only an exit poll".According to the exit polls, in Meghalaya, where the Congress is in power, the JanKiBaat-NewsX exit poll shows that Conrad Sangma-led National People's Party (NPP) will emerge single largest party with with 23-27 seats while the BJP will get 8-12 seats.
The Congress, which fought fiercely under Mukul Sangma, is predicted to win only 13-17 seats with a voteshare of 21 per cent. This could be a major set back for Congress as losing out Meghalaya will leave the grand old party in power only in Mizoram, Punjab and poll-bound Karnataka.The BJP-NDPP alliance is set to win Nagaland with victories in 27-32 seats but the regional NPF, an erstwhile partner of BJP, may get 20-25 seats.The Congress, which fielded only 19 candidates, is likely to get only 0-2 seats with a vote share of 4.4 per cent, says the survey by JanKiBaat-NewsX.CVoter has also given NDPP-BJP: 25-31 and said that the NPF may win only 19 to 25 seats.
According to CVoter, there could be a hung assembly in Meghalaya as the Congress likely to get 13-19 seats and the NPP 17 to 23 seats. It says BJP may win 4-8 seats with a vote share of 16.6 per cent. The regional parties UDP and HSPDP are also likely to bag 8-12 seats.(UNI)
