Fidayeen attack: 3 militant killed, 4 SF injured near Srinagar airport

Srinagar: Three militants were killed and three security personnel injured in a fierce encounter during a fidayeen attack on a Border Security Force camp near Srinagar International Airport, where all morning flights were suspended on Tuesday. Air traffic has now been resumed and a flight of Air-Asia will land here anytime now, an official of the airport told UNI at 0945 hrs.

A police jawan, posted at the residence of a retired senior police officer at Friends Enclave, Humhama, was injured after he was hit by a stray bullet. Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack while authorities have closed all educational institutions in the area for security reasons. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called a meeting at New Delhi at 1130 hrs on Kashmir situation, reports reaching here said.

They said a group of three to four heavily armed militants hurled hand grenades and resorted to indiscriminate fire near the main gate of the camp of 182 Batallion BSF at Humhama between 0400 hrs to 0415 hrs in morning. BSF guards posted near the main gate also retaliated but some militants managed to storm into the camp, they said adding three BSF personnel were injured in the initial firing. They said one militant was killed near the main gate while others have managed to enter the camp. Police also confirmed the death of a militant near the main gate and injuries to three BSF personnel.
