Jammu: Giving hopes to many, Irmim Shamim has become the first girl from Gujjar community of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir to make it to the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exam for MBBS course.
The girl belongs to a backward community and her family was reeling under financial problems. Shamim use to walk 10 kilometres every day to go to school as there was no good institution near her village.
The family, expressing their happiness, wish to see her become a successful doctor and serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
District Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad told UNI that she will be made brand ambassador of district for "Beti Bachao' Beto Padhao" scheme.
"District Rajouri most of the times is known for ceasefire violations and border tension, but this girl has changed the narratives for outer world," Mr Asad here told UNI.He said that it is a proud moment for not only the district Rajouri but entire Jammu and Kashmir, adding, "on August 28, she will be honoured by the district administration."
The District Commissioner further assured her of every possible help so that she could continue studies in future.(UNI)
