Srinagar: Five militants were killed by security forces in an ongoing fierce encounter in central Kashmir's Badgam district since early Thursday morning, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.Authorities suspended internet service of all Cellular companies as a precautionary measure in the district, where demonstrations were erupted in which two people were received pellet injuries.
Official sources said on a tip-off about the presence of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, Army, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir and CRPF launched a joint search operation in Fatlipora village, Pakherpora in Charar-e-Sharief in Badgam district this morning.
However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding security forces also retaliated, ensuing an encounter.They said the residents in the area, where the encounter was going on, have been shifted to safe places.
