Varanasi: The nomination papers of former Border Security Force jawan and Samajwadi candidate from Varanasi Tej Bahadur Yadav was on Wednesday rejected by the authorities over the issue of dismissal from the service.
The former BSF jawan, while informing about the decision of the authorities, told mediapersons here that his nomination has been rejected 'wrongly'.
As per the law, a person dismissed from the government service for corruption or disloyalty, is disqualified to contest any elections for five years from the date of his dismissal.Yadav was dismissed from the service in the year 2017 after he released a video on 'poor' quality of food served to soldiers.
"I was asked to produce the evidence at 1815 hrs yesterday and I did so, still my nomination was rejected. I will challenge the decision in the Supreme Court," he said.The Returning officer(RO) Surendra Singh had served him a notice on Tuesday asking how he was dismissed from the service.
The Samajwadi Party had given ticket to Yadav to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after replacing its candidate Shalini Yadav on the last day of filing of nominations on April 29. In 2017, the BSF had set up a Court of Inquiry against Yadav after he claimed in a video that they were served with 'watery' dal and 'burnt' chapatis.
Immediately, an investigation was ordered into the incident by the Home Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office also sought a report. Subsequently, Yadav was transferred from the Line Of Control and later on dismissed on charges of indiscipline.(UNI)
