Former Cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been named as the new Jamsaheb of Nawanagar, now known as Jamnagar, an Indian princely state in the historical Halar region on the southern shores of the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat.

The announcement was made by Maharaja Jamsaheb of Nawanagar in a statement.

“Dussehra is the day on which the Pandavas felt victorious upon successfully completing their 14 years of incognito existence. Today, I too feel victorious as Ajay Jadeja graciously accepts to be my successor and the next Jamsaheb of Nawanagar, which I truly believe is a great boon for the people of Jamnagar,” Shatrusalyasinhji said in Gujarati.

53-year-old Jadeja is a descendant of the royal Jamnagar family. He was born in Jamnagar in 1971 to Daulatsinhji Jadeja. The prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named after Jadeja’s relatives, KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji, respectively.

Jadeja played from 1992-2000 representing India in 15 Test matches and 196 ODIs.
