New Delhi:Former JNU Students' Union president and Communist Party of India (CPI) member Kanhaiya Kumar and Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM) MLA Jignesh Mevani from Gujarat, are likely to join the Congress on September 28, party sources said on Saturday.
According to the sources, both the leaders had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to discuss their role in the party.
Mevani, who is a Dalit leader and represents Gujarat's Vadgam constituency, could be made a working president of Congress' state unit, according to the sources.
Congress is likely to give Kanhaiya Kumar a role in Bihar to revive the party after it was decimated in the assembly elections held last year.
The Congress could secure only 19 of the 70 seats it contested. The Congress was part of the Grand Alliance which also comprising RJD and left parties.
Kanhaiya Kumar unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bihar's Begusarai against BJP leader Giriraj Singh.(UNI)
