Latur: Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior congressman Shivajirao Patil-Nilangekar passed away here in a Pune hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday, family members said. He was 91.
Mr Nilangekar had tested positive for the novel coronavirus and had been discharged two days ago after a steady recovery, they said.
Other than that, he was suffering from diabetes, high Blood Pressure and a kidney ailment.
Being elected as a first time MLA in 1962, Nilangekar served as Maharashtra chief minister between 1885-1986.
He had also served different portfolios in the state cabinet and was actively involved in the freedom movement of India against British Colonisation.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter and grandsons, including former State Minister and Nilanga BJP MLA Sambhajirao Patil-Nilangekar.
His body will be taken to Nilanga -- his native in Latur district and funeral ceremony will take place there, family members added. (UNI)
