Former union minister and Congress leader Buta Singh dies at 86

New Delhi:Former union minister and veteran Congress leader Buta Singh passed away on Saturday. He was 86.Singh served as the Union Home Minister and Bihar Governor. Besides, he was chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes from 2007 to 2010.
He contested his first elections as an Akali Dal member and joined the Indian National Congress in the late 1960s at the time when that party was split.He worked as journalist before joining politics.
 
Rahul condoles Buta Singh's demise
 
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday expressed grief and condoled the death of veteran Congress leader Buta Singh.
 
Taking to the micro blogging site twitter, Mr Gandhi said, 'The country has lost a true public servant and a sincere leader with the demise of Sardar Buta Singh. He dedicated his entire life for serving the nation and betterment of public and he will be remembered always for the same. My condolences with his family in the difficult time.'(UNI)
