Srinagar: Four militants were killed and a soldier martyred in a fierce encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Tuesday, official sources said.
Troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation early this morning at Nadigam, Shopian. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, which was returned.
During the fierce encounter, four militants were killed and a soldier martyred, the sources said, adding that the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
Defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia also confirmed the death of four militants and said details are awaited.(UNI)
