A series of blasts rocked the pink city on May 13, 2008, killing 71 persons and leaving about 200 injured. The blast took place in eight locations which were situated within a 2-km radius.
After the verdict, the advocate for the accused Paker Farooq alleged that the verdict was given under the pressure of media and the prevailing atmosphere in the country.

The advocate had argued that one of the convict--Salman-- was a minor at the time of the crime, which was not considered by the special court.

The eight locations targeted in the series of blasts were the Manak Chowk police station, Badi Chaupad, Kotwali police station, Tripoliya Bazaar, Chandpole Hanuman temple, National Handloom in Johari Bazaar, Chhoti Chaupad and Sanganeri Gate Hanuman temple.
